Thursday Thrills



As is typical when the warmer weather starts to arrive, stripes are high on my wish list this week. Is there anything more quintessentially summer than stripes? Maybe watermelon, but fashion wise, no. Some stripes, cute sandals, and a tote bag and I'm all set for summer!

The New Pad

Near exhaustion and completely frustrated, the bf and I went up to Seattle this past weekend to finally settle on a place. We had been looking and touring apartments for months but nothing had really grabbed us. It was either we were giving up location for a nice apartment or giving up a nice apartment for location, a compromise neither of us were willing to make. With a day full of appointments set up for Sunday, we ended up leasing the very first place we saw - it was just that good. 

Unfortunately, in our hurry to sign some paper work to ensure the place was ours, we forgot to take any pictures. So alas, dear readers, you'll have to bear with me as I post a few pictures from the ad.  Just be patient, more photos with my decorating won't be far off!

The apartment is absolutely huge for a one bedroom, an oxymoron by definition, but it really is. It has too much closet space (California walk-in closets!), a kitchen outfitted with all Bosch appliances, wide plank cherry floors, and an amazing view. We can't wait to wake up there in a few weeks and see the Space Needle from bed. The amazingness doesn't stop there, the place also has a powder room for guests and comes with a parking space and storage locker for all my bf's tools and my Christmas decorations. And of course, the building just happens to have a large park area for Frank. Somebody pinch me.

Can you guys tell I'm excited? Be prepared to be overloaded with decorating progress posts the next few months!

Fabulous Fashionista // Rosie Huntington -Whiteley

First off, you may notice there are more photos featured in today's post than is normal for this series. Well, Rosie Huntington -Whiteley's style is just that good. It was pretty much impossible for me to narrow down my favorite looks though I tried my best. 

After researching for this post, I've come to the decision that RHW may be as big of a fashion influence as OP, although she is much newer on the scene. RHW embodies cool London chic, mixing minimalist pieces, rocker pieces, and timeless pieces for one fabulous look. Plus, it doesn't hurt that she is one of the most gorgeous models out there and looks good in positively everything.

Cleanse Follow-Up

Instead of the usual Friday Favorites post, I thought I'd do a cleanse follow-up post, summarizing my results and take ways, and answer some questions for everyone.

Well, I'm happy to report that I finished the cleanse I wrote about here. I followed it exactly Tuesday through Thursday (without cheating!) and have been transitioning back to solids since. To do this, I ordered an extra days worth of juices and am spreading them out over the weekend.

So, as I'm sure many of you are wondering, what were the results? A little weight loss, though most likely just water weight. Slightly clearer skin. A lack of sweet tooth. A new appreciation for chewing. Unfortunately, I didn't notice that I had any more energy than normal or that my headaches got any better, leaving me to believe that my typical diet (though it could be improved) isn't that far off, meaning I didn't discover a gluten allergy or that dairy and meats don't sit well with my stomach.

Would I do a cleanse again? Maybe. I'd considering doing one again after the Holidays possibly. It proved to a be an effect and drastic way to reset my cravings and diet, which is great, but overall I felt it was too drastic for the results it yielded.

This week's wishlist is a hodge podge, I'll admit. The weather this week has reverted back to cold rain, leaving me torn between wanting to crawl up in my coziest sweater and breaking out my bright summer clothes in rebellion. All that, mixed with a little bit more edge than usual, is what I'm craving this week.

Blue Print Cleanse

It's official. I'm a crazy cleansing hippie. Just kidding... I'm actually just someone who needed a dietary change and fast. This last month or so, I've either been incredibly busy, traveling, or surrounded with graduation cake so needless to say, my eating choices have not been stellar and I've paid for my choices. I've been really tired and had more headaches than usual. Curious to find out whether I have food allergies, I decided to do a cleanse to find out.

Since I'm not a masochist, the Master Cleanse (water, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper for ten days) was out and I couldn't find any local juice bars that offered a cleanse, leaving me to turn to trusty Google to find one. After a few days of research, I settled on the Foundation Level Blueprint Cleanse.

Blueprint has three different levels, which vary by how many green juices taken in daily. The Renovation Level, which is equivalent to level one, is the exact same as the Foundation Level cleanse I chose (level two) except that drink 5 is a beet based juice. Since I gag at the though of beets, that level was ruled out. Their Excavation Cleanse, or level three, is supposedly the most difficult because it has four green juices a day. I wasn't feeling that brave so level two it was.

Thus far, after completing day one, I don't really notice any difference. Now while that might sound negative, especially after the investment I made to do this cleanse, I'm actually really happy about that. You see, most people get headaches, starve, and feel nauseous as their body adjusts to a new, cleaner diet. Whether or not those side effects will show up on the other three days of my cleanse is still unknown but for now I'm happy they aren't here.

Here is my review of the drinks:

1. Green Juice
Made up of romaine, celery, cucumber, apple, spinach, kale, parsley, and lemon, this just easily is made up of more greens that I've eaten this year. The taste is really hard to describe. It's not sweet, not grassy, and doesn't taste more like any one particular ingredient than another. While that description isn't helpful, I can tell you it isn't bad, and that's coming from a girl who has never been able to eat her veggies. It's actually kind of refreshing.

2. Pineapple Apple Mint
Holy sweetness! While this drink was overall more palatable than the Green Juice, I was really surprised by its sweetness. It was almost too sweet and acidic for me.  With that said, tomorrow, when my sugar addiction kicks in, I'm sure I'll guzzle this stuff.

3. More Green Juice
Quickly learning this stuff is best served cold.

4. Spicy Lemonade
I was really surprised by how much I liked this stuff. I'm not typically a lemonade fan because it's so tart, but the agave nectar and slight spice in this lemonade made it delicious. And in case you're wondering, it's really not spicy at all and that is coming from someone who has a hard time tolerating mild salsa.

5. More Green Juice

6. Cashew Milk
While not something I'd call a dessert under normal conditions, this drink is easily the most tasty of the six. It's thicker consistency helped me feel less hungry and I was happy to have anything even close to creamy line my stomach. It'd been a long day of acidic drinks.

Fabulous Fashionista // Rachel Bilson

Rachel Bilson has been a fashion inspiration of mine for a really long time... I'm talking since she was Summer Roberts back on the OC long time. While her preppy Southern Californian style was what initially won me over as a pre-teen, her effortless mix of bohemian, rocker, and sophisticated style has my admiration for her still going strong.  Plus, it doesn't hurt that she has a seriously enviable collection of blazers and that she practically invented ombre hair, both two things I'm incredibly found of. Are you an Rachel Bilson fan as much as I am?

Friday Favorites

1. Finally splurging on some red soles while in Vegas.

This Friday couldn't come fast enough. Between graduation last weekend, Vegas last week, and being on a business trip during the early part of this week, I can't wait to spend a full weekend at home. This weekend will be filled with unpacking, cleaning house, and enjoying the warm spring weather with a hike  through the hills with the pup and family.  Also, as some of you that follow me on Twitter may know, I'm starting the Blue Print Cleanse on Tuesday so this weekend will also be spent prepping for that... aka eating as many fruits and vegetables as possible. What are your plans for the weekend?

2. Finishing up the last of our graduation cake.


4. Not being able to stay mad at this little guy. This is his "No Momma, I didn't just chew a corner of this rug." face. 

5. Pretending to be a modern day Coco Chanel in this Zara blazer. Black isn't the most fitting color for the weather as of late but I just love how edgy it is. 

6. Our new lucite dining chairs. They literally sparkle like diamonds when the sunlight hits them. I'm in love. They're our first pieces of lucite furniture and I have a feeling won't be the last.

Thursday Thrills


 After putting this week's wishlist together, I noticed two themes: brights and pastels. When the weather gets warmer, I tend to trade in my dark, edgier pieces for neons and brights. At the same time, I replace my autumn toned work clothes for office appropriate pastel and cream pieces. Besides a few wardrobe staples in summer colors, I'm craving graphic prints and all things scalloped - are those Aldo shoes not amazing? Last but not least, those DVF wedges, which also come in gold, have been on my list for the last few weeks because of their amazing lines that add the perfect amount of edge to an otherwise sweet summer go-to shoe.What is thrilling you this week?

Fabulous Fashionista // Nicole Richie

Before I get into how much I like Nicole Richie's style, I just have to apologize to all you readers for abandoning you over the last week! Graduation weekend, our trip to Vegas, all combined with a business trip on Sunday and Monday absolutely kicked my butt and left me with zero time for anything. But I'm back now, and so ready to catch up on my blog roll and start posting again.

Okay, now on to Nicole. While we all know of her downs, namely an eating disorder, drug addiction, and calling Paris Hilton her BFF, the petite fashion designer has bounced back over the last few years in a big way. Trading sorority girl tanks and extensions for the perfect mix of rocker and bohemian style, I think that Nicole Richie is a fashionista we can all learn a thing or to from.

It's Here!

Graduation weekend is here and I'm about to be busy! Many bottles of champagne will be drank, laughs will be had with family and friends, and I'm sure, some tears of both happiness and sadness will be shed. Oh, I forgot to mention this earlier but... my mom ordered me a custom cake for my grad party saturday and I cannot wait to see it! Is it bad that is what I'm most excited for? After many seasons of Cake Boss, it's about time!

- Drew's brother is visiting us today for the first time in Portland, meaning I get lunch from my favorite food cart today
- I got the go ahead from the bf to start the process of ordering a customer couch - so major
- Burning all my school work, semi-reinacting the scene from Office Space where they beat up the copier
- My new dining chairs finally shipped
- May flowers (peonies anyone?)
- The first union of my bf's and I's extended families at our grad parties

How to De-stress// Finals Week

by blowing some cash at Shopbop... Just a few things I picked up for our trip to Vegas next week. Come Monday, we are flying to Sin City with all of my bf's family to blow off steam and enjoy the ninety degree weather. Obviously, lace shorts, white jeans, and a neon mini are in order. The Elizabeth and James metallic skirt I'm planning on wearing out to a show one night since it is a bit fancier. And of course, should I forget anything, or am able to manage to squeeze anything in my suitcase for the flight home, I can always count on Zara... shopping at one in person is such a rare treat!

Famous Fashionista: Lauren Conrad

Lauren Conrad has been a fashion idol of mine for a long time, since I was thirteen and Laguna Beach first aired, to be exact. While her guidance turned me towards fleece North Face jackets and racerback tanks through my teen years, now in my twenties, her influence has steered me towards two of my favorite fashion trends: neutrals and blazers. I'm just going to come out and say it: LC knows how to do classy casual. Whether she is running errands or attending a LA party, this girl knows how to mix trendy and timeless. In fact, I'm a big believer that her style has helped her stay out of trouble during her time in the spotlight. Anyone else notice that she has never had an eating disorder, a DUI, or been filmed doing drugs unlike most starlets her age? Because of that fact, paired with her drive to start her own fashion and beauty empire, and mixed with her killer style, Lauren will always be one fashionista to envy.
